Kimberlite may occur in the field as dikes or pipes that crystall

May 1, 2021 · The correlation coefficients between analytical signal grid of modelled kimberlite pipe and observed magnetic data were computed. Following this approach, kimberlite model with correlation coefficients exceeding 80% was selected. By matching the response of modelled kimberlite pipe with the magnetic anomalies, four pipe-like targets were located. The Monastery kimberlite is a group I kimberlite pipe of about 0.8 ha in surface area, that intruded Karoo sedimentary rocks. It has been dated 88-90 Ma. • The East End Type kimberlite is located at the eastern-most tip of the intrusion and was termed the easten blow by Whiteiock (1973). This kimberlite type narrows to a dike-like structure ...

Kimberlite is a blue-ish rock that’s found almost exclusively in structures known as kimberlite pipes. Kimberlite itself is an igneous rock, and is considered a rare variant of peridotite. Those who are familiar with the formation of peridot know that peridotite is an olivine-rich stone that bears the semi-precious gemstone peridot.Since the kimberlite pipes were initially covered by Lac de Gras, it was necessary to first construct dikes around the pipes to prevent water from flooding the open pits and underground mine workings. The A21 kimberlite pipe is also under the lake—its location is indicated by the blue dot. Photo courtesy of Diavik Diamond Mine.Kimberlites occur as intrusive igneous rocks, generally as dykes, and pipes and some small diatremes or volcanic vents. The pipes are generally irregular structures and have not been found to exceed 2 km in diameter. The physical properties of kimberlites are variable. Physical properties from a large number of sources are tabulated. Western Australian …Revised, 3/9/2022.On Sunday, May 19th, 1996, the 1996 Industrial Minerals Forum scheduled a field excursion to the Sloan Ranch kimberlites in the southern part of the Colorado-Wyoming State Line district, to learn about two of the six diamondiferous kimberlite intrusives within the Sloan cluster in the southern part of the State Line district.Since its original description, “kimberlite” has been extended to nonbrecciated rocks of similar mineralogy to that from the type locality but lacking diamond, and also to others …Specifically, the kimberlite pipes that most likely to contain diamonds occur in ancient cratons, the oldest and most geologically stable portions of continents. While not all kimberlite pipes contain diamonds, most diamonds occur in association with kimberlite pipes. Kimberlite is an ultrabasic igneous rock that contains at least 35 percent ...The kimberlite pipes of the WKF offer a wide scope for research and in recent times attracted geologists and mantle petrologists for carrying out extensive research (Chalapathi Rao, Giri, Sharma, & Pandey, 2020). As research is progressing, with the enhanced knowledge, new opinions on their petrological taxonomy are changing. …The 372 Ma V. That find suggests the possibility that drift diamonds in Wisconsin have come from a more local source—kimberlites in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. The Lake Ellen kimberlite is very poorly exposed, but a Kimberlite eruptions leave behind a characteristic deep, carrot-shaped “pipe” of kimberlite rock, which often contains diamonds.A xenolith of bimineralic eclogite from the Udachnaya kimberlite pipe provides a snapshot of interaction between mantle rocks and diamond-forming fluids/melts. The major-element composition of the eclogite is similar to that of N-MORB and/or oceanic gabbros, but its trace-element pattern shows the effects of mantle metasomatism, which …Pipes larger than 10 hectares4 in size can produce 3 to 4 million carats of diamonds, worth 350 million US dollars. Large Kimberlite pipes are rare. Recent ...Kimberlite magma can rise toward the surface at speeds estimated at up to 400 meters (1,200 feet) per second, ripping up more and more pieces from the surrounding rock, which gives the kimberlite its characteristic texture (fig. 3). Figure 2--Generalized diagram of a kimberlite pipe. Figure 3--Polished kimberlite core sample. The magma eventually cooled inside these kimberlite pipes, leaving behind conical veins of kimberlite rock that contain diamonds. Kimberlite is a bluish rock that diamond miners look for when seeking out new diamond deposits. The surface area of diamond-bearing kimberlite pipes ranges from 2 to 146 hectares (5 to 361 acres).Kimberlite, as originally described by Lewis (1887, see Dawson, 1980) was a serpentinized, ultrabasic, phlogopite-bearing, diamondiferous volcanic breccia found at the Kimberley diamond mine, S Africa. The term blue ground refers to unoxidized slate-blue or blue-green kimberlite that occurs below the superficial oxidized zone. Kimberlite pipes are only found on the cratons of earth’s continents. A craton is the core or nucleus of a continent, and it represents the thickest and most stable portion of the continental mass. But most importantly, a craton represents a thick layer of silica-rich rock that extends deep into the earth.

The first diamonds discovered in South Africa were from alluvial deposits. Kimberlite pipe A geological structure formed by the violent supersonic eruption of deep-origin volcanoes. The kimberlite eruption does not form a large aboveground elevation. These pipes are the primary source of diamonds.
